Our childbirth education classes

When you’re having a baby, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with uncertainties about what to expect. That’s why we designed Bailey Babies Childbirth Classes – to give you the knowledge and skills you need to achieve a rewarding and fulfilling childbirth experience and to promote a healthy pregnancy.

We offer the following classes:

  • Birthing class: Led by our childbirth educator, this four/five week course covers all aspects of the pregnancy and childbirth experiencing, including topics like how your baby is developing, what to expect during your pregnancy and labor, relaxation and breathing techniques to make your pregnancy and labor more comfortable, and pain relief options during labor. We also offer instruction on infant care and breastfeeding. All patients enrolled in this class will receive a special diaper bag with informational inserts and coupons inside.
  • Breastfeeding class: Taught by an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), this course will teach you the advantages of breastfeeding, techniques and positioning and all about breast pumps.
  • Infant CPR: Learn how to perform potentially life-saving infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques from a certified CPR instructor, and rest assured you’ll be ready to respond in case of an emergency.

Our classes offer patients the opportunity to ask questions, gather information, and socialize with other expectant parents. All expectant mothers, partners, and support persons are invited. For more information on class times and costs, please contact Angie Carlile, obstetrics manager and childbirth educator, at Angela.Carlile@BaileyMedicalCenter.com or by calling 918-376-8241.

How to sign up for a class

We’re excited to help you prepare for your baby’s arrival! Our childbirth education classes consist of a two-step process that includes:

  • An online portion: In this first part, expecting mothers and their support person learn about childbirth education at their own pace through an online platform provided to you after signing up.
  • An in-person class: Once you complete the online portion, you and your support person are welcome to join the childbirth education team for an evening session with a pediatrician and an anesthetist to answer any questions you may have.

To register for one of the in-person class dates below, please call our Lactation Office at 918-376-8268. We are no longer offering an online sign-up option for the childbirth sessions. Our voicemail will also provide details about this change.

Infant-safe sleep

Every year, thousands of sleep-related deaths occur among babies. Here at Bailey, we model safe sleep practices throughout our hospital. Here are four tips that can followed by parents and caregivers to help your baby sleep safely:

  1. Place your baby on his or her back for all sleep times both for naps and at night.
  2. Use a firm sleeping surface, such as a mattress in a safety-approved crib.
  3. Keep soft bedding such as, pillows, blankets, soft toys and bumper pads out of the sleep area of your baby.
  4. Have your baby share your room, but not your bed.

When it comes to infant safe sleep, remember the ABCs. Alone on their Back in a Crib! For more information, visit the CDC’s safe sleep index.

TeamBirth program

TeamBirth is a program that improves teamwork and communication during childbirth. It involves the whole birthing team, including the patient, their support person, nurses, doctors, and doulas. Using a whiteboard to keep everyone updated on the birth plan and progress, TeamBirth ensures that everyone is on the same page. This approach aims to build trust and improve decision-making during labor and delivery. The initiative is part of the Tulsa Birth Equity Initiative, supported by the George Kaiser Family Foundation.
